The Oxygen Index Tester is used to determine the minimum oxygen concentration (oxygen index) required to just sustain combustion of materials in a combustion cylinder with a controlled mixture of oxygen and nitrogen. This value is used to evaluate the combustion performance classification of materials or for product quality control.
This instrument is suitable for testing the combustion performance of strip- or block-shaped materials with a thickness less than 10.5 mm that can support themselves vertically. It also applies to homogeneous solid materials, laminated materials, or foam materials with an apparent density greater than 100 kg/m³. Additionally, it is suitable for certain foam materials with an apparent density less than 100 kg/m³.
Typical materials include plastics, rubber, insulation materials, flame-retardant fabrics, composite materials, extruded boards, fiberglass-reinforced plastics, wires and cables, waterproofing materials, fibers, ropes, flame-resistant materials, foams, polyurethane, asphalt, soft films, wood, films, etc.
Note: For evaluating flame spread characteristics of foam materials with a density below 100 kg/m³, relevant equipment specified in GB/T 8332 should be used.
